1        Section 1 of the Rules of Golf   Provides guidance on the manner in which the game of golf should           be played. The overriding principle is that consideration should be shown to others on the course           at all times.

 

2         Pace of Play. Play should be at a good pace, and it is the group’s responsibility to keep up with            the group in front. If it loses a clear hole and it is delaying the group behind, it should invite the            group behind to play through, irrespective of the number of players in that group.

 

3         Be Ready to Play. Players should be ready to play as soon as it is their turn to play. When            playing on or near to the putting green, they should leave their bags or trolleys in such a            position as will enable a quick movement off the green and towards the next tee. When play of a            hole has been completed, players should immediately leave the green.

 

        No one should move, talk or stand close or directly behind the ball or the hole when a player is          addressing the ball or making a stroke.

 

4         Lost Ball. If a player believes his ball may be lost outside a water hazard, or is out of bounds, to           save time, a provisional ball should be played.

         Players searching for a ball should signal the players in the group behind to play through as soon           as it becomes apparent the ball will not easily be found. They should not search for five minutes           before doing so. Having allowed the group behind to play through, they should not continue play           until that group has passed and is out of range.

 

5          Priority on the Course. A single player has no standing and should give way to a match of any             kind.

 

         Any match playing a whole round is entitled to pass a match playing a shorter round.

 

         If a two-ball match is being held up by a three or four-ball then they should ask to go through. If           the two-ball does not wish to go through then in turn they must invite any following matches to            play through them be they two, three or four-balls, if any such match is being held up.

 

          Strict adherence to the above rules is expected from members & visitors, except: -

         a) Organised visiting parties playing in three or four-balls will not be expected to invite two-ball             matches through if the visiting party players are keeping their place on the course.

         b) Members playing in twos in competition do not take precedence over competitors playing in               three-balls.

 

Care of the Course

 

6          Bunkers Before leaving a bunker, players should carefully fill up and smooth over all holes and            footprints made by them and any nearby made by others – preferably by using a rake on the            course.

 

7          Through the Green Through the green a player should ensure that all divots are replaced at             once and pressed down.

 

8          Preventing Unnecessary Damage In taking practice swings a player should avoid taking divots             whether on a tee-box or fairway.

 

9          Local ‘Rules’ Including notices regulating the movement of golf buggies/carts should be strictly            observed.

 

10        Greens All pitch marks on putting greens must be repaired immediately and damage caused by            golf shoe spikes repaired on completion of the hole by all players. In order to avoid damaging            the hole, players and caddies should not stand to close to the hole and should take care            during the handling of the flagstick and the removal of the ball from the hole. The head of a            club should not be used to remove a ball from the hole.

 

11        Penalties for Breach In the case of a serious breach of etiquette, the Committee may disqualify            a player under Rule 33-7
